1951 "Central Research Institute of Electric Power Industry" (CRIEPI) was founded in Komae, Tokyo.
1957 CRIEPI's "Agriculture Laboratory" was inaugurated in Abiko, Chiba.
1970 CRIEPI's "Civil Engineering Laboratory" was inaugurated in Abiko.
1986 The above two laboratories were merged into "Abiko Research Laboratory".
2001 The Abiko Research Laboratory obtained ISO 14001 certification.
2004 As part of the reorganization of CRIEPI, the Abiko Research Laboratory was partitioned into "Civil Engineering Research Laboratory", "Environmental Science Research Laboratory" and "Abiko Operation & Service Center".
2005 The Abiko district gained ISO9001: 2000 qualification
