   Multi-directional wave test basin
   <<Back
   [Installed : March 1990]

[Summary] This test basin is an experimental facility with 72 wave-generating plates (tank: 35 m long, 45 m wide, 1.1 m deep), the largest in Japan, which can generate waves with the same property as offshore waves (multi-directional irregular wave). It is used for the investigation of the design of various ocean facilities such as surveying wave deformation, wave height, and flow in the vicinity of an artificial island.

[Objective] This test basin was established to promote the efficient, wave-safe design of offshore structures and to carry out research on assessing the effect of offshore structures on waves, flow, and sand movement in the surrounding sea. It can reproduce not only wave heights and intervals of wave propagation but also properties of waves traveling in various directions (multi-directional irregular wave). For this purpose the wave generator has 72 wave generating plates with a width of 40 cm, each of which is operated by a computer to generate the intended wave.
