|
| [Summary] |
This
structure is the world's largest wave flume; 205 m long, 3.4 m wide, 6 m deep
(maximum depth: 4.5 m). It can generate irregular waves with a period of 3 to
20 seconds at maximum wave height of 2 m, and for tsunami with a period of 20
to 100 seconds at maximum wave height of 25 cm. It can absorb the reflected waves
from the beach or structures in the flume. This is the only water channel in the
world where it is possible to reproduce tsunami without any vertical or horizontal
distortion. |

|
| [Objective] |
This wave flume was constructed to conduct test models
at a scale of about 1/10 for natural phenomena due to various coastal waves, to
clarify erosion sedimentation mechanisms at sandy coasts, to develop new caissons,
to evaluate stability of wave erasing blocks, and to develop sea-sap blocks for
producing sandy coasts. Compareding with small-scaled model tests, the scale effect
can be reduced. A tsunami generating system added in 1986 can produce tsunami
without any distortion at 1/100 to 1/200 scale. This resulted in tests of propagation
of tsunami at the depth of 100 m or less, wave force, and stability of floating
objects. |
