SERL is developing technologies for solving various problems mathematically using information technologies. Specific examples include developing image processing and machine learning technologies that facilitate the maintenance and inspection of power system infrastructure and techniques for optimizing large complex systems.
SERL is developing interactive techniques for identifying an abnormal condition sign from measurable data before they manifest as an abnormal condition, particularly based on data such as sensor outputs during normal operation from a highly reliable facility or machine that rarely fails.

As fundamental technologies for solving various power system problems, SERL is developing optimization techniques for planning energy system deployment and operation, and planning the power system restoration after equipment failure or disaster. Optimization techniques with guaranteed accuracy of solutions are also being developed.

SERL is developing IT risk management technique aiming at a further decrease of the IT risk of the electric power industries that are important infrastructure of the society. Techniques that can maintain risk level lower without decreasing usability of IT system, and so on are being developed.
