A Geiger Muller counter was employed the measurement of the radioactivity concentration in environmental soil samples, which contaminated by the Fukushima Dai-ichi NPP accident on March 2011, in order to evaluate the vertical migration behavior of radioactive contaminant in different type of soils and the distribution of radioactive contaminant in soil. The soil samples were collected at some different land use on October 2011 in, such as grass field, bare area, forest floor and orchard garden floor in Abiko, Chiba, Japan. We brought back to our laboratory and measured beta-ray counter (TGS-146B, Alola, Japan) in the lead shield (50mm thick). The only 5g from the soil samples were used for the measurement, because of the size of detecting area of the counter. Most of radioactive contaminant, i.e., radiocesium, were deposited in the depths of 1-2cm at anywhere in the area we collected the samples. The vertical migration behaviors in the sampling site were different in types of soil such as bare ground (compacted hard surface) and forest floor (soft and porous surfaces, high organic matter content). In the results of dry- and wet- size classification of soils with sieves and sedimentation, it showed that the finer particles had slightly higher radioactive concentration. This is highlighted that it is not easy to remove the radioactive contaminant from soils using size classification, and further study were needed.
