Development of simple analytical method for trace chemical substances such as PCB using high temperature thermal degradation

The purpose of this study is to develope a simple and rapid analytical method for trace chemical substances such as PCB in insulating oil. First, the authors designed and manufactured a high temperature thermal degradation system to prepare insulating oil samples simplly and rapidly. Using this system, chlorines contained in PCB in insulating oil samples are expected to change to hydrochloric acid by high temperature thermal degradation. The manufactured system was applied to degradation of PCB standard reagents. As a result, it was succeeded that chlorines in PCB were degraded to hydrochloric acid, and were measured quantitatively. In addition, the system was applied to prepare the insulating oil, in which PCB concentartions were known, resulting that chlorines in PCB were detected almost quantitatively. Accordingly, the high temperature thermal degradation system, which was designed and manufactured by the authors, has a potency to analyze chemical substances such as PCB in insulating oil simplly nad rapidly.
