概要 (英文)

FIFTEEN SUBSURFACE SOILS COLLECTED FROM DIFFERENT SITES IN JAPAN WERE USED FOR THE PRESENT STUDY. THE SOILS DIFFERED GREATLY IN THEIR CHEMICAL AND PHYSICAL PROPERTIES. THE DISTRIBUTION COEFFICIENTS (KD) FOR ARSENIC (3) AND BORON IN A LINEAR ADSORPTION ISOTHERM WERE DETERMINED FOR THE SOILS (KD OF AS (3) : 75-1200 ; KD OF B : 0-18), AND THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THOSE KD VALUES AND SOIL PROPERTIES WAS EXAMINED. THE KD VALUE FOR ARSENIC (3) WAS SIGNIFICANTLY CORRELATEDWITH THE DITHIONITE EXTRACTABLE FE CONTENT IN THE SOILS (R=0.90), WHERE AS A HIGH POSITIVE CORRELATION WAS ALSO FOUND BETWEEN THE KD VALUE FOR BORON AND THE OXALATE EXTRACTABLE AL CONTENT IN THE SOILS (R=0.98). THESE RESULTS IMPLY THAT THE ADSORPTION OF ARSENIC (3) AND BORON BY SOILARE CONTROLLED MAINLY BY LEVELS OF AMORPHOUS IRON OXIDES AND HYDROXIDES FOR ARSENIC (3) AND BY ALLOPHANE FOR BORON. ADSORPTION AND MOVEMENT OF ARSENIC (3) AND BORON DURING THE INFILFRATION OF COAL ASH LEACHATE THROUGH SOIL WERE ALSO EXAMINED USING AN UNSTEADY-STATE, ONE-DIMENSIONAL CONVECTION-DIFFUSIVE MASS TRANSPORT MODEL. THE CALCULATED RESULTS SUGGESTED THAT THE BULK OF ARSENIC (3) RELEASED FROM COAL ASH IS STRONGLY ADSORBED BY SOIL NEAR COAL ASH-SOIL INTERFACE, WHEREAS BORON REACHES DEEPER LAYERS THAN ARSENIC (3).
